Retreat from Syria and Paving the Way for US Becoming Secondary Power

Retreat, incompetence, cowardice and treachery are words to describe the decision of Donald Trump to pull the forces out of Syria, leaving once Kurdish allies alone against Turkey and Assad Axis forces. This decision is showing the nature of Trump administration, infested with surreal incompetence amplified with arrogance and neglectance, sinking once great country into harmful isolationism.

The world is changing, meaning once Thrid World countries like China and India, with its enormous population, will suppress US power. China will do so in years to come, almost certainly winning in this trade war. US could maintain its position in this century only with its Western allies, but with this administration US proved it’s not someone worth of trust. Europe will rely less on US, and probably build its own capacity as a separated entity on the global stage.

Is this good for the world, the world without Western dominance? Certainly not. The West, fragmented on separated entities, will leave a huge vacuum, leaving more space for regional and secondary powers like Russia, Turkey, Iran, Israel, Saudi Arabia… to conduct its own agenda, which is bad for world and for these countries, because they ultimately lack capacity to really conduct their policy, which will leave space for proxy, local and regional actors, which will cause more fragmentation, and bigger and bigger vacuum.

Leaving Syria to Turkey, Iran and Russia will ultimately backlash for these countries as well, because they lack capacity to stabilize this country which will probably cause chaos. But it won’t make any good for US neither, proving US is not the one to rely on, the trust which gave US and the West privileged position as decent part of the world, and decent actor. With his administration, Trump made US just another Third World country, leaving decency into mud, which ultimately paved the way for US becoming, as Russia, secondary power.
